It is very common to feel nervous or uptight before an exam or to have ‘butterflies’ in the stomach before going on a first date. However, when anxiety becomes so frequent, intense and uncontrollable it starts to hinder a person’s life daily life, she or he may have an anxiety disorder - a real, common and treatable medical condition that affects more than 12% of Canadian men and women annually.
